London, 28th March 2017: The Box Plus Network, the UK’s largest and most-watched music television network, has today announced the launch of a brand new, network-wide internship campaign, to find the freshest new talent, both behind and in front of the camera.

Partnering with The Ideas Foundation – a charity which is committed to increasing diversity in the creative industry, The Box Plus Network will be giving students a chance to work on real life business tasks with leading industry figures. They will be challenging them to build their own campaign for the network, with the end goal of creating the concept and official name for the campaign.

On March 30th and 31st, students from Lambeth Academy and Oldham College will work with The Box Plus Network on a ‘brief in a day’, which consists of a series of masterclasses that enable students to interact, understand and engage with a live brief.

Throughout the day, students will be mentored by members of The Box Plus Network team, including, Matt Rennie, Athena Witter, Melissa Fretwell, Dan Brown, Matt Cook, Alysha Wood, Joseph Cooper and Jonny Young; who will provide guidance to help build and strengthen their campaigns; by sharing industry knowledge, experience and skills.

Working in small teams, students will be briefed on the brand and target audience, before being guided through the process of creating a successful campaign. They will then have the opportunity to pitch their campaigns to a panel of judges from the network by submitting their ideas on video by April 10th.

The winning team will see their campaign concept come to life in June 2017. The network will then open for applications from hungry young talent; inviting them to take part in one of eight internship placements across marketing, presenting, production and digital through to operations, commercial and scheduling, help achieve their career dreams.

Youth unemployment is a significant global issue that is vital to The Box Plus Network’s core audience. The network currently employs a largely young, enthusiastic and talented team of individuals and have a strong success rate of bringing entry level staff into the network, allowing them to flourish in the workplace.

Each internship placement aims to inspire and motivate young adults to become successful and commercially smart individuals. The placements offer students aged 18 and over, an insight into the music and broadcasting industry, giving them the opportunity to explore its many career pathways – no matter what their academic background.

Students enrolled on the programme will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the industry’s best talent and gain hands on experience to help bolster their CV. Depending on the placement they select, this could involve creating and capturing content or assisting with live shows, through to booking artists and helping to create TV and radio campaigns.

Melissa Fretwell, Marketing Director at The Box Plus Network says, ‘Here at The Box Plus Network, we have always been committed to nurturing young talent and are extremely excited to work with Lambeth Academy and Oldham college and involve them in the creative process from the very beginning. Our ‘brief in a day’ is an amazing opportunity for students to learn about what we do as a content business and pitch their winning campaign concept to launch our nationwide intern search. We hope students will be inspired to strive for a career in media and even pick up skills that will stay with them throughout their working life. Who knows, we could have the next Box Plus marketing director in our midst.’

Heather MacRae, Managing Director, The Ideas Foundation, The Ideas Foundation is here to kick-start creative careers working in partnership with leading brands and talented creatives.  We are thrilled that young people will be able to work on the exciting Box Plus intern search brief.   We hope that the partnership with Box Plus Network will open up teenage minds to the wonderful career opportunities in the creative industries.  We are especially pleased that we have been able to take the projects into school in the Careers and Enterprise Company targeted areas.  We know that high quality employer encounters can impact on students future career prospects.

Testimonials from previous Box Plus Network interns:

Laura Carter, Production Intern, promoted to Production Coordinator:

“Paid internships are like gold dust – when you find a good one you really feel like you’ve like you’ve struck lucky. As the intern at The Box Plus Network, I felt like everyone was willing to help and wanted to make my experience worthwhile. I felt like a valued member of the team and learnt a huge amount about the industry I wanted to build a career in. Without the opportunity of the intern programme, I don’t think I would have progressed as quickly as I have done, it’s been a big stepping stone for me and I think it’s a great thing for network to continue doing.”

Mikey Dowdle, Design Intern, promoted to Junior Motion Graphics Designer:

“The intern programme was great for me to get proper hands-on experience with live projects, big and small. There was plenty of guidance there when I needed it (when I had no idea what I was doing!), but also freedom to try my own ideas and develop my skills.”

Emily Dawling, As-Run Assistant, former work experience:

“Applying for work experience at The Box Plus Network was by far one for the best decisions I’ve ever made. I was lucky enough to get picked for a two week placement with the amazing staff here in the planning and scheduling team. I learnt an incredible amount in the two weeks; being thrown in the deep end and given responsibilities; making me adapt to the busy and fast paced TV environment I have always aspired to work in and this was a dream come true! I am so grateful for the scheme, as it gave me the opportunity to kick start my career and has allowed me to meet some fabulously talented people here at The Box!”
